CAN NARROW IT DOWN TO 2 - AEDEX OR EPSON
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately the back-office PC has died so the tills will be useless now. The PC is just continuously doing a 4 second beep and there is nothing showing on the screen. I am so upset about this because I loved these old XN 700s and the Xn Active Business Series software because it was so similar to the very old Bass Retail System software. I just wish there was a way that I could get the PC working again or failing that moving the back-office software to another PC.
It depends on what BIOS is installed on your pc as to what the four beeps mean. I'd check the obvious culprits first. RAM has become unseated, cables loose or unattached etc.
If the worst comes to the worst, you can always either image your hard drive to another one or physically move your hard drive to another pc.
This all depends on how confident you are with dismantling PCs!
Thank you for your quick reply. I am not sure what BIOS is installed, how can I go about finding this out?
The beep is about four seconds long and just repeats over and over and the screen remains blank. I'm not sure if it may be a video card error?
I have opened the PC up and reset the RAM cards and all connections including the HHDs, but it has not made a difference.
There are two hard disks inside the PC one is labled old C and the other is not labled, if i was to transfer the drives to another PC would I have to move both?
If it would help I could upload some pictures of the inside of the PC.
Thank you for your help.
theres probably a sticker on the system chip or somewhere that'll give you an idea of what bios is inside it. or look up the motherboard number on the internet.
once you've identified the bios you will then be able to look up the beep error codes, the beeping you describe is a critical system error and will mean something specific - but it is specific to the bios, im afraid so you will need to do some digging yourself.
The choices are however relatively limited and will be a choice of
ram
gfx card
cpu
psu under voltage
ram and gfx card being by a long way chief suspects.
hope thats of help xxx
