If it happened when the paper ran out, you may have a printer jam. Remove the ink roller and check that the printer gears can turn freely.

Try turning the control key to P
Unplug for 10 seconds
Plug back in
Key back to R

Have you checked the batteries?

Get the battery checked. It is usually faulty when this happens. If it hasn't been replaced in the last 5 years, it will definitely need replacing by a dealer.
