[SOLVED] 2 x S3000, 1 not communicating with scanner
Hello all, I recently purchased in the USA two SE-S3000 and two Honeywell 1250g barcode scanners for them. Once I got my hands on the scanner config sheet, the first S3000 (henceforth Register1) has been working perfectly with the scanner. After using the same configuration steps on the 2nd S3000 (Register2) and then scanning a barcode, no information makes it to the register, the LED on the scanner stays solid green, and the scanner's laser never comes back on until power cycle or flag clear. Same effect with scanner #2. I called the dealer and he says it's impossible for Register1 to have a scanner working on port 2000 (as the scanner config sheet called for), and that it should be 12000. I tried both on Register2 to no avail. The next thing I was about to try was to take a full backup from Register1 and try loading it on Register2, in the hope that with it would come the necessary settings to have Register2 behave the same way with the scanner as Register1. I thought I'd ask here if that's wise, and if there's another solution to my issue. Below are the specs of the scanner configuration, and some version numbers that show on a flag clear printing which may be relevant to the issue I'm having.

I haven't done much on the 3000 but they both have different init codes and it's possible the second till is set for check tracking rather than scanning. If this is the case, you'll never make it work as it won't have any scanning file ready for scanning items. Initialise the second one with the same code as the first and try setting the port again. You'll lose all data in the second machine but I assume you don't have anything programmed into it yet.

Nothing I can't live without. You can do Initialization without having to mess with loading .IPL files, right? Looking at the service manual for this machine I see INIT 23040 is listed as US S3000 (Dealer), but there's no 23010 anywhere. I wonder if it was just a typographical error when the dealer set it up.
The 1 and the 4 are absolutely a significant difference. The MAC code is the whole basis for memory allocation and country settings. I'm pretty sure the second to last digit is hospitality or scanning file selection so it may be very relevant. Without having more info on this model I cant be sure but if it doesn't have the code for scanning, you'll never be able to enter any items so get it right first as it can't be changed except at full ram clear time. You don't need to change the IPL. That is the firmware and isn't related to the basic MAC code.
No luck with the INIT code, scanner ends up with the same behavior. Next thing I'll try in a few days is loading the IPL file from the first machine. At least I hope I saved the one from the first register.
