Our kitchen printer ribbon ran out we bought another but now the printer prints only half width of the order with no ribbon in the print head goes all the way over but only marks half any ideas

My immediate suspicion would be a hardware fault. That doesn't help you much, I know. As long as the ribbon is in place correctly and turns freely there is no other reason. The print plate can slip out of line, but then you would normally see the print fade in, not just start like that.
Those printers are old technology and were never much good in the first place.
