Hi Guys

I have been asked to move a till from one room to another room, which is quite easy i believe.
The only problem i have got is there is no connection in the other room that is free, they already have one till plugged into that port. It is a serial connection that has an adapter to an RJ45 i think the cables are the RS485.
I think i have these two options
1) Getting an adapter and extending the cable from one room to the other. Question is it would be about 100meters or so, would the cable be ok going that distance?
2) Could i split the serial port into two connections, then run the two tills off one cable?

Cheers
Darren

Hi Darren,

Your question:
1) Getting an adapter and extending the cable from one room to the other. Question is it would be about 100meters or so, would the cable be ok going that distance?

I've run a cable approx 80 metres and it was ok, but would not recommend it past this point as you may have issue's on cable signal strength and also depends if there's other electrical wiring that may effect the cable strength. The short the run the better really.

2) Could i split the serial port into two connections, then run the two tills off one cable?

You could have a special adapter cable which plug into your existing cable and two split cable going into the two tills, however this cable would need to be made up and also depends on the distance between the two tills.

I'm assuming the serial adapter cable you are referring to is a 9 Pin D sub female to a RJ45 connector (RS485) the 9 pin female ends connects to the existing network cable and the RJ45 (RS485) end connect direct to the terminal.

I do make these custom cables, so if you are interested please feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the reply, the tills would be about 6ft appart, so distance wouldn't be a problem, yep your right with the connection

Would this need to be programmed into the server? i have been told by my boss (i work behind the bar) that it doesnt matter if the two tills are working on the cash/stock register as long as the both tills balence at the end of the night.

Could you pm me a quote for the splitter and the 6ft cable

Cheers

Hi Darren,

Just to answer your question

Would this need to be programmed into the server? i have been told by my boss (i work behind the bar) that it doesnt matter if the two tills are working on the cash/stock register as long as the both tills balence at the end of the night.

Once you've got the terminal connected you will need to initial the IRC systems, this can be done quite easily.

I'll PM you with the cost and provide you some info.

Why you don't try network cabling companies they have HD cables those serves you a lot and gives more than expected results. You will get rid of long connected wires as i am using personally and getting best results with a smart connect cable.
