Problem with EPOS Office software...

We upload z and x reports to the EPOS Office program from an FTP site, today when I uploaded the reports it looked like it was going fine, it had the green checkmarks and everything, then when it got to the point where it usually adds up the totals it had a box come up saying "Input Line In Error (REPORT.DTA) 91,1520,1129213.000,,,,,,,,)" I hit OK, and then another box came up saying "Warning: Corruption or unexpected data found - contact your support centre" The files in the FTP site are gone, and in the EPOS Office program I can see previous items, but none for the dates I tried to upload for. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!

I guess that you don't have a support contract with the company who originally provided the software? It sounds like one of your remote tills has managed to corrupt the data when it was sent up to the FTP server, which causes EPoS Office to bomb out when it encounters something it doesn't like.

The good news is that the original data will still be stored on your PC in Raw format. The bad news is that trying to clean it up and sort it out isn't easy, and certainly isn't the sort of thing that can just be done with a step by step guide on here.

I would honestly recommend that you go back to your original supplier and ask for their help. I have a colleague who fixes these problems so if you get stuck let me know, but it would have to go through our company I'm afraid.

I was able to fix this problem after a little looking around at the files for the program, so I thought I'd post how I did it in case someone else has this issue. It was pretty simple once I figured out what the numbers meant. What I did was I opened the DATA file folder, for us it's located at C:UniwellePos OfficeDATA then I opened the REPORT.DTA file with note pad. I used the 'find' function to locate the line - 91,1520,1129213.000,,,,,,,, the third number is the number sold, which is obviously incorrect, so I changed it to - 91,1520,13.000,,,,,,,, and it's been working for a week now just fine. I should probably mention that the PLU this relates to for us has no cost, so there might be further adjusting for another PLU that had a similar error.

I'm still not sure why we had this problem though, so if anyone has an idea on how to avoid it in the future that would be great!

Also, thanks Simon, your post sent me in the right direction!

Which version do you have? Maybe you need to patch it to the newest version... Which model or til?

Well done in doing that. I have engineers who need to have there hand held through everything and would not dream of actually opening the file with the error in it and deleting the offending line.

To answer you question these things happen. Sometimes the file bought across is corrupt or the file coming out of the till is corrupt. The PC with epos Office may have caused the corruption. It is fairly common. You just delete that line and carry on. Sometimes it is best to delete the line instead of manipulating the data to what you think it should have been.

We as dealers have a special tool that can examine the REPORT.dta file. It finds the error and allows you to fix it.
