Sharp UP 700 POSUtility help
Hi guys Im new here and very nobbish in the POS arena. I have read every post on here in regard to connecting my UP 700 to the pos utility software on my pc and as yet I have not had any break through
I am trying to work out if I have the correct cable as I got one with the till...
one end is a RJ45 Male Connector as far as I am aware and looks like an Ethernet cable end which I guess plugs into the till but please correct me if im wrong???
And the other end is a 25 pin DB25 I think its called and is on the other end of the cable which plugs into my computer I think??
Can someone please confirm that I am indeed using the right cable?
I should add that I am in Australia & will this software even work in my location???
Cheers
That cable will more than likely been wired as a printer cable.
You need an rs232 cable and 9 pin ends. It's wired as it says, as in:
2-----3
3-----2
5-----5
Just for information, there are 2 rj45 sockets on a 700. The one on its own is for network communication as long as there's a network card in the machine. The other one is wired as a serial port and is beside the 9 pin serial port.
Good question about whether it will work in Australia. You can only try! You could always set your regional settings to UK of course and that might work. I know from here it won't work in North America.
One last thing, can I swap where you live for here??!!
Ok thanks for the info Porty
So the cat5 cable will not work?
Sorry i should of also explained in a bit more detail, so here it goes...
The barcode reader is utilizing the 9 pin serial port on the back of the register and I would be happy to use this port except the cash draw is stopping me from removing the screw that is conveniently placed at the back of the 9 pin barcode reader connection.
I guess I could pull the till apart to get this screw but you mentioned that the rj45 port next to the 9 pin port is wired as a serial and thought maybe I could just cut off the 25 pin connector on my current cable and wire on a 9 pin in its place???
is this possible?
And no problems mate! if Australian immigration laws are giving you trouble, you could always marry my sister!
You would still need the rs232 cable in there, but you could try a 25 to 9 pin converter between the 9 pin rs232 cable and your existing cable. As in 9 pin to 9 pin rs232 from pc to 9 to 5 pin converter, then 25 pin to rj45 to the till.
