Sharp UP-3000
Hi !
I 've had since new a Sharp UP-3000 now 4 years old. Yesterday it went blank during operation and came up with the error..........Break 01 Address Error 21 1719 00 00 2.
I took it to my Sharp Dealer who said the main board was no good and a replacement would cost £800 + fitting and re- programing + VAT. He then proceeded to try and sell me a new epos system
Any one any ideas ...is he right
Thanks in advance
Les
Hi. I'm assuming this is a UP-3300. they show UP3000 on the display, but that is a series number.
He could be right. It will also do that if your battery is no good, and it has lost everything.
I would try a program reset first.
Take the back cover off. You will see a little switch on the circuit board (I think it is labelled S1).
Turn the main power off on the side of the machine.
Slide the switch inside the back to opposite position to what it is now.
Turn the power on at the side of the machine.
Slide the switch in the back to it's original position.
You see an option on the screen called 'program reset'. Touch that button.
Now see if you end up back at the REG mode screen.
Good luck. Let me know if it doesn't work, and we can try something else.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your help so far.
Now I've got the reset screen up the model is UP-3301 trouble is it's pass word protected. Is there a default pass word
I have also taken the battery out (will try and get a new one) it has not been removed since I bought it as the security seal was still in tact. Perhaps this is one of the things the dealer should have checked first.
Cheers

Sorry didn't read your instructions properly. The same error comes up when I follow your instructions. I should explain though that the dealer did a master reset on it whilst I was there and lost all the programed info. The screen however was fully functional after that. He then told me it needed reprogramming and he couldn't do it until the following day.
The following day he rang me and said the same fault had occurred during the night whilst it had been on test and the board was no good. I would have thought that if the battery is low then this would be bound to happen....just a thought
Oh right. Yep, that was the info I needed alright. He is almost certainly correct (if you ever remove the battery with power off, you lose all data). If he did a master reset, and it failed again, then it has a memory, or CPU issue most likely. It's very strange for a 3301 to do this, as they are still so new. I would see if Sharp could be persuaded to pay for some of the cost, as it will be very expensive to fix if the board is faulty.
If it is doing a master reset now, the password is 11111111
Try it out for a while, and see if the problem returns.

Hi Mark
Well, I decided to remove all the casings and have a look inside. The only obvious thing I could see was a slight burn on the data ribbon where it had been resting on something hot. I twisted it slightly and re-assembled the casings. I then did a master reset and so far it has not developed the error again. Do you think it possible that the data ribbon could have caused a component to over heat thus causing the error?
Cheers
