Ok, so as stated in my previous thread, my wife runs a recycling center. Most of her transactions are refunds, as people are paid money to drop off their recyclables. Some loads are 'contaminated' - as in bottles have lids still attached, or items are covered in mud/leaves/etc. and create more work for her employees.

So, they generally subtract a percentage of the refunds based on the condition of the items being brought in: either 5%, 10%, or 15% reductions in refunds.

I have programmed 23 recyclable item PLUs and placed them into a REFUND Dept. The PLUs and Dept are all programmed as negative to generate a refund.

The manual seems to illustrate that the % key(s) are designed to add or subtract a percentage from an item or sub-total. % is listed as Function 5, %2 as F6, %3 as F7, %4 as F8.

So, I thought I would set % as 5%, %2 as 10%, and %3 as 15%. I have been able to program a 5% reduction to F5 using 2310, but it will not allow me to program anything to F6, F7, or F8. And even so, the F5 % doesn't work at the PoS. Clearly I'm not quite on the right track. Also not very clear is how to access %2, %3, or %4, as the ERA420 only has a % key....

Thanks in advance!

It occurs to me that my wife has so few PLUs that she will never have use of the Level (1,2,3) functionality in this machine. I would like to reprogram those keys to be 5%, 10%, and 15% "discount" keys.

SO, where do I find this magical list of Service codes so that I can use my newly filed-down key to reprogram keys? I have scoured the Service manual (very tiny) and the Dealer book (very large) and I don't see these elusive codes. Is there a collection somewhere? I don't want to totally mess with the layout...just tailor it to my wife's needs.

Scoured the Dealer Book again and found the 950/951 SRV codes to alter keyboard layout.

So, I did a 950 report to see which keys were attached to which functions.

Manual has %1,%2,%3,%4 listed as Functions 5,6,7,8 respectively.

950 Report has them listed as 37,38,39,40 respectively. Not sure what the discrepancy is, but I can reassign them with 950 using the 37,38,39,40 #s.

I have re-linked %1,%2,%3 to keys 3,2,1 respectively, at lower left-hand corner of keyboard, as it doesn't appear I am allowed to reassign Level 1,2,3 keys. Sad. Would have been perfect.

I have programmed them for their needed percentages....but when I do a PoS transaction I just get an error message. Clearly it is late, I have had one too many Manhattans, and it is time for bed.....

Maybe in the AM I will see myself for the idiot I obviously am.

The free key layout is VERY confusing. That's why I do it by external software!!
To assign %2 to the keyboard go to srv mode, then type in 951 - . - X -32 - (press on the keyboard where you want it) - TL
Before you press the TL you can put %3 and %4 on the keyboard by just pressing where they've to go. You can do this because they are the next function keys in the function key list. Just remember the TL once you've finished!
What you printed out was the keyboard key position numbers with the assigned function key numbers next to them (told you it was confusing, gets worse!). The keyboard key numbers start at 1 at the bottom left hand corner and work their way up but don't include the rcpt feed and jrnl feed buttons.
You're almost there with the discount programming. Make sure you have your plus or minus the right way round and you make the discount for an item instead of subtotal. I'm assuming there people can bring in lots of stuff but only a specific thing will get the 'discount/addition'.

Hi Steve,
Not to stress out to much, at least you are getting there eventually.
Best way is to have another Manhattan and join the rest of us. Prefer Bundy Rum myself.

Try programming a American 420 in Aussie when they are not supposed to be any in the country.
Had fun with that one, real head spin, different codes in programming, layouts, etc.
Lucky we have good Sharp service guys here.

If you can get a hold of the Sharp software for your 420 then it makes life a lot easier.

Kind Regards
Paul
