Welcome to EpoS Wizard!
Sharp ER-2386
I had my cash register plugged in and had a power outage. When power came back on the read out was not clear -- eventually -- I don't know how I was able to get them to finally be readable -- nothing works now. I try to program in the date and time and I get a beep when hitting the last button of the program.
Nothing else works either -- the ns button does not even open up the drawer -- only beeps.
Please advise -- I do not know if the battery has ever been replaced. I have an owners manual but not a service manual. How do I check on the rechargable battery?
The book talks about two keys -- I only have the MA key which is the master key -- I do not have an operator key -- OP
Thank you in advance for your time and help
Hi.
The 2386 is a rare USA model with special tax functions. You are probably correct about the battery being bad. The battery is a rechargeable type, and is mounted on the main circuit board inside. It usually looks like a small blue barrel with two legs soldered into the board. It is a 3.6Volt Nicad battery - any old 3.6V cordless phone battery will be ok to replace it. I suspect you will have to fully clear the machine and start again. To do this, you will need a SRV key. You can file down your manager key to make one, then you can turn to all positions (there are hidden ones). If you are keen to do this, then I have info to make this key. You don't need an OP key, as they are more limited than what you have already. I have some service information on this series, but there are variations in the models, so I need to know which series of the 2386 you have. Is your owner's manual in PDF form? If I can get a look at it, I can help you further. Otherwise, we will have to guess a couple of things.
So that's it. If you still feel like having a crack at it, just let me know, and we'll continue.

Thank you for responding
my owner's manual is not a pdf file -- it is hard bound and I have a copy -- I could scan and attach if need be.
I found the blue barrel battery you spoke about -- it appears to be firmly attached as I cannot remove it with a small tug. How would you advise to remove battery?
On the inside of the cash register on the key pad is the following info --
model TWK4655-01
LOT # 145960
Serial # 00039966
On the side of the cash register near where the cord comes out of the machine is the following numbers
ER2386
Serial # 29051515 n
Does this help you to help me? I hope so.
Again thank you in advance!
Debra
Ok. If it's not PDF, then don't worry. we can refer to it for other programming if need be.
I have attached two pictures. They show you how to make a SRV (service) key. The instructions show a Casio key, but you file it the same way for a Sharp. Look at the finished one, and you will see what you need to file out.
Let me know when you have done this, and we'll carry on.

Also, did the battery have crystals on one end of it? If so, then it is bad, and should be removed straight away. If not, it should probably be changed anyway. They are usually soldered into the board, so you will need to find someone who can solder the new one in for you. As I say, you can just use any old 3.6V cordless phone rechargeable battery. I usually cut the legs off of the old battery, and solder the new one to the legs that are still stuck into the board, then cable tie the new pack to the board. If you don't change the batt in a machine that old, you will probabbly keep having the same problem. It is supposed to be done when it is serviced every three years
