Hey folks, Im a keen sharp programmer in rural scotland inbetween glasgow and edinburgh, I look after my local shops etc :) One of the shops replaced their cash register and I have aquired their old UP700 that has been out of power for dont know how long. I tried a master reset from 6 position to 7 position bolding both receipt and journal to no avail etc, opened the register up, the battery is ok after leaving it plugged in overnight and the transformer is outputting correctly, I did notice there is no memory chips in the expansion slots but they should not prevent a master reset. ........ any ideas or other things to maybe perhaps reload the original programme into the onboard chips
any help apreciated
Regards
Dale

Have you metered round the board to see if you're getting voltages? Is there any evidence of past water ingress, or is it still damp? It may respond to being kept in a warm, dry place for a few days.
Normally even the most corrupted ROM will do something. You can reflash them though. You'll need the utility, an APLD cable and a copy of the ROM image. All you need to do is flick the IPL switch on the expansion board to get it into receive mode and make sure you use port 2.
I'm in Edinburgh if you get stuck. Wonder if the machine came from the company I used to work for?

The machine started its days in england I think, didnt recognize the company it seemed to be a catering company rather than a till place. what company did you work for?

It does need the rj45 to 9 pin.
You've probably checked this but, the brightness control isn't all the way round?
I used to work for the sharp dealer in Edinburgh.

No worries Ill try get one online, yeah had a look at that, It doesnt even give a quick "flash" when you turn the AC on noticed that they do that. I strpped the keyboard down too incase there was water in it or damp, all was fine. Is it switch 301 or 302 that needs to be on for it to receive data from PC? Also, I have a working UP700, I could copy from that to PC then use that to send to the broken one?
Ah cool.
cheers
