struggling to connect ER-230 to my pc

Hi all,

I have just setup a small business and as such have just got myself a small sam4s ER230 till, i have the "ER-230 PC Utility" software and a RJ45-serial cable and am using a usb to serial adaptor (as most modern pc's don't have a serial port) -
I have also changed the tills com port setup to "PC", but whenever i try to connect i just get the message "REGISTER NOT READY". is there anything i am doing wrong?
any help would be greatly appreciated, please be gentle as i am a complete novice with tills

not familiar with that model but check the manual in case you have to put the till into pc-online mode as you do with others in the samsung range [though not all]
also, check that the usb-serial is set to be com 1 or 2
let us know how u get on
