what plug is on the end of the scanner?
is it a 9way d type kinda like the plug on a monitor or a small glass one similar to the telephone plug [rj45]?

if its the glass one, only 2 cables will be connected [cant remember for certain but its brown and green or brown and purple. this configuration will require a 5volt regulated power supply attached to the scanner - regardless of how you set the till
I wasnt aware that the power coud be turned off and on on this model but it would probably be lurking in s mode under serial port parameters - the display would be close by - under serial port device selection.

on reflection - knowing what a delicate little wallflower the 2000 is - i would go for the external power supply option anyway - go and get one from maplin the specifications are that it MUST BE REGULATED
and be capable of supplying 5v at 800mA the coaxial power plug is center negative [though i have never wrecked one pluging it in backwards it just doesnt work!]
