SPS-2000 Datacap questions
We have the system up & running but customer is reluctant to move away from her external credit card machine to the attached swipe. She purchased a used system which has a Datacap TwinTran V3.0. I called her bank and they took down the system info and will call back if it's compatible. They asked me if we were going to use terminal or host processing? I told them I didn't know but would check. I haven't been able to find any useful source to explain the difference. We are using a single terminal in a pizza place setting.
1. Host or terminal - what's the difference?
2. I'm assuming I will set it up for Dial out load or dial in load after I speak with the bank techs? I went to the datacap home page and they have an option to log in with an account to download configs (Payment Systems Configuration Server) but we don't have an account.
3. The TwinTran is internet based with dial-up backup. We do not have an internet connection. Will there be a delay while it tries to find the internet? If so, are there any settings needed to have the twintran go immediately to dial-up?
4. To process DEBIT cards, the manual mentions a pinpad. I haven't been able to find a LINUX based pinpad. All of the serial ports are being used so we will have to use a USB device. Any suggestions on a model that works with the SPS-2000?
Hi there! Did you ever figure any of this out? I am also trying to figure out whether a similar set up that was purchased used will be able to function properly. I do not have the log in information either, but really need to change merchant information.
not heavily into integrated EFT but im sure that you must use an eft terminal that has been approved for use with a 2000.
the post is 7 years old and terminals dont usually last that long!
the 2000 is now obsolete too - i would check with your eft vendor to see if they have a unit that is backward compatible. Frankly, i'd settle for a stand alone eft solution to prevent the scenario when you have a problem that the till company blame the eft company and vice versa [Coincidentally I have had exactly that scenario today!]
Hey Andy! Yeah I think that a standalone terminal may be the best option at this point. I got a great deal on a few used SPS-2000 systems and wanted to try a light set-up before investing in some up-to-date equipment and terminals next year. I know that at one point the EFT terminal I have was compatible with the SPS-2000, but at this point setting it up could be more work than reward. I am pretty sure that the card company would have to configure everything and that may be an issue. Plus, the standalone terminal will likely be more reliable. I was really looking forward to being able to have my employees swipe the cards at the attached reader, but that is a luxury not a necessity. I will heed your advice for the sake of my sanity! Thank you!
if it's any consolation, most customers wish they had gone stand alone - once they have tried both. Plus if your till goes down - with a stand alone, the transition is far far easier.
