yup the answer is about as useful as the question !Head

is it a serial or usb scanner?
if its usb then - you plug it in - end of!
if its serial, set the port parameters and scanner comms to match [typically 2400 odd 8 1]
thats about it

you do not "link the barcode to the plu" the barcode IS the plu

if you scan a barcode in reg mode and the scanner is set corectly [but the product is not yet programmed into the till] the till shuld error with the message "no data"

you must match the settings in the till to match those in the scanner - the scanner will have shipped with a book full of barcodes used to set up parameters - if you have lost this then you are in for a very long hard ride - guessing what is programmed into the scanner.

2400 odd 8 1 is the most common for scanners [you didnt say whether you found that on the scanner or the till???????] - the same settings should be programmed into the com port parameters on the till [dont forget to set the port device to scanner]
if that fails, try 9600 odd 8 1
or 9600 none 8 1 [thats a standard comms port setting but not usually used in scanners] i also noticed that you wrote the settings as 1 8 not 8 1
to clarify, its 8 data bits and 1 stop bit

until you get the "no data" error - its pointless going through the programming a product procedure - im also intrigued as to why the sudden interest in a bar code scanner onto a till thats obsolete? [bit like adding a tow bar to a morris 1000!]
