SP2000 query

We've just recently bought a business with an SP2000 already installed.

When I go into financial reports to check the takings there are 4 buttons on the screen next to the report;
- Print
- Save (USB)
- Save (SD)
- Close

Normally we just print it off but it would be very useful to save the reports to a USB stick or SD card to take home and load onto to my PC for analysis, tracking etc. Anyway when I press either of the save buttons I get what looks like an error message something like "Check USB port". When I plug the stick into my PC at home I can see that the till has created a directory on the stick called something like SP2000 but there is nothing in it.

I've spoken to our local engineer and even had him in to investigate but he says this function is purely for backup purposes when a software rebuild is being done or something similar but that seems unlikely to me. He also says he's checked the manual and that says I can't just save the report when it offers me the option to save it. He reckons I've got to buy the Samstock program to do anything with the data on the machine at all.

Is he telling me the truth? Is there a way to save these reports?

Any help appreciated.

ive never really used that function on the 2000 before but i do know size matters :oops:

you need to use a very small sized sd card [not sure what the biggest it accepts but i tend to stay under a gig for backups etc] i must say i have never eve ever gotten a usb stick to work - for backups or anything else for that matter

will have a go at saving to usb myself a little later.
samstock is a wicked program but not sure what it is you want out of the register
the 2000 is a fairly powerful machine in its own right but if you are taking away the reports and expecting to do anything with them from a software point of view i think you will be disappointed.

Thanks for the reply. The SP2000 is a sledgehammer to crack a nut in our case I think, we use probably about 1% of its functionality but I didn't buy it, it came with the business. Essentially we use it as a standalone cash register with a thermal printer attached.

All I really want to do is save the reports to a stick or SD card so that I can take them home and import them into Excel to tracking purposes, so if it's a CSV file or similar that would be fine. I think we've got a very small SD card somewhere so I'll maybe try that tomorrow.

By the way I don't know if it's relevant but I meant sps2000 not sp2000.

Having trawled through the manual it says on page 102;

Printing & Saving Reports
After a report is selected and displayed, PRINT and SAVE option buttons are displayed.
Touch PRINT to print the report at the designated receipt printer. Touch SAVE to save the
report in .txt (text) format on an SD card. The report will be saved on the SD card in the
path:
sps2000/backup/xxxxxx/REP_mmddyyyy
where “xxxxxx” is the six digit store number and mmddyyyy is the date of the report.

Which pretty much contradicts what the engineer said.

Ok, today I took a very small blank SD card (256kb) and did the same thing again.

After the "Check SD card" error message I pressed OK and it came up with another message which said "Completed" so I was hopeful of having succeeded.

Anyway I just got home and checked and there is now a folder on the card called "sps2000", and in that folder there is another folder called "backup" but there is nothing in either of them.

So no further forward.

Any suggestions what else to try?
