Hi - does anyone know what the maximum length of Ethernet cable is between the SAM4s SP-520 andthe switch? I'm looking at cabling up a venue where the longest run is likely to be 90m but can't find any information in the manual about whether this is going to work or not

Any help or feedback on networking these particular tills much appreciated!

The absolute maximum length for a Cat-5 cable run is 100m. For something as critical as an EPoS system I wouldn't even consider what you're looking at doing. Find somewhere half-way where you can put in a powered repeater and avoid any worries or headaches when it goes wrong.

Thanks for the quick response. I think that we'd consider installing two switches so that the max cable length from any point in the venue to the switch would be 50m.

As it happens, I'm also considering a complete replacement and looking at wireless EPOS so I'll raise a separate thread to get some thoughts on that.

I would never consider running an EPoS system over wireless. There are far too many variables and risks of down-time, network issues etc.

if the 500's are anywhere near as ropy as the 2200's, id use cat6 and gigabit switches
