Does anybody knows what is the "hardware key" (or software key) needed to run the software SAMS 1000 for the sps 1000 machine?. I've been trying to run this program and nothing happens, finally I saw this line on the user's manual "The software key must be intalled on the LPT port for SAM 1000 to run". Then on the TRoubleshooting Comon Problems seccion another line that says: "Verify that the hardware key is in place. SAM 1000 will not start if the key is not found ..."
A customer ask me to set up this system for him. I installed the software from the CD, Version 3.21.2. The installation goes fine but then the program nevers starts. I don't think my customer has any key (hardware or software key).

i have never heard of a piece of software specifically for the 1000
but from the extracts from the manual, what you are describing is a "dongle"
its a piece of hardware that protects the software from piracy
you can copy the software as many timea as you like - but its useless without the dongle.
modern dongles are normally plugged into the usb port - so this must be quite an old bit of kit if its on the parallel port - i have used these in the past andyou need to ensure that the lpt1 mode is set to spp [standard printer port] epp causes problems as do non bi directional parallel cables for printers.
for some none protected software, look out for sam tools - it too is old but i know it works wwith sps 1000 as well as 6500's
