Help!
I came to work today and my Samsung ER 5140 did not show a display and seems to be frozen. I unplugged it and then restarted it and nothing. It sometimes prints some odd images on the register tape, but they are not readable.
Any ideas?

Hmm. Sounds like it may be hardware related.
Try an initial clear. This will try to jump it back to reg mode.

Turn off power at wall.
Turn key to P mode.
Hold SUBTOTAL.
Turn on at wall.
Wait for print, then let go of SUBTOTAL.

See if this helps.

Yep, tried that from someone else's post. Nothing! It doesn't do anything but make a sound like the paper is going to feed and then quits. I can push the buttons and they beep like they could do something, but they all do not respond. Push the buttons a few more times and then the beeping quits and back to ground zero.

We had an electrical storm the other day and I am wondering if that somehow fried the cash register.

Thanks for responding,

A power surge is a possibility. If you don't have anything on the display, then I would say it is almost certainly a board fault.

Does that mean I should start looking for another cash register? I can't see paying to have that one fixed. It might cost as much to fix it as it would to get a new one.

Thanks,
Jerry
