Hi Everyone,

Fantastic forum you have here.

Back in November we had an EPOS system running ICR Touch software, unfortuntely the support package was only three months before it then became a premium monthly payment.

I have a good general knowledge about computers so can generally find my way around them.

The system we have in place is:

1 FEC Bar Point of Sale Unit + Receipt Printer and Cash Draw
1 FEC Point of Sale Unit Front of House Till + Receipt Printer and Cash Draw
1 Kitchen Printer

These are linked using network cables and Cisco Switch.

For some reason the last two days we have been getting an intermittent fault where the orders haven't been going through to the kitchen printer.

In addition to this the screen on the POS Unit seems to be lagging then it goes okay.

I've updated the ICR Touch SW last night as there was an update available that was released in February 2013 but it again this afternoon the problem started to occur again.

I've changed the Cisco switch thinking that could be the problem but it happened again.

Thinking about the system I can foresee one the following problems:

1, The ICR Touch Software

2, The Cisco Switch (Cisco SD205 5-Port 10/100 Switch)

3, The KP Printer

4, The Networking Cables - I did find that there was a kink in the KP printer network cable which I've straightened out but think it may need a new lead. - Hopefully this is the problem.

Have you had any issues like this and is there a solution?

Thanks

Lee

cant comment on the hardware but as far as i know, icr touch supports rs232 printers not tcpip?
i may be wrong
the lagging is the software searching for a particular piece of hardware
its unlikely to be the software or the settings
id start with replacing the printer cable [though i would expect at least onre of the front of house terminals to be registering a device error at the bottom of the screen

to be fair, to get the best out of your new system, the premium support is a very good idea - and to some compulsory!

Thank you for the reply Andy,

When we had the 3 month 3rd party support they were really hard to get in contact with.

I think and hope that it's the cable, up to now touch wood it's been okay since.

Both the receipt printers are RS232 port printers but the printer in the kitchen is a TCIP printer.

This is why I think it's the network.

ICR does support TCIP printers nowadays.

I suggest when you're having problems running a ping test from your till to the KP.

hi..

You should have a green light on the back of the printer where the RJ45 cable goes and the same on the switch as well. You should have one light for each cable.

Easy way to test is to get a small patch lead and plug it in the switch or disconnect one till and replace it with the printer and you should get a printout.

It will more than likely be a damaged cable unless someone has been doing any programming. :D
