I have a SX690 I bought second-hand. I got david software with it, I'm trying to clear the PLU's and programme my own in. I'm having problems communicating with till.
When I tried to read from till I got comm error 99 straight away. This I fixed when I used comm port 3.
Now it starts to read till, then after 20 seconds comes up with comm error 5.
Does anyone know what this means? Should there be password? PC is on XP and comms settings are below:
Comms Port - 3
Baud Rate - 9600
Data Bits - 8 Bit
Parity - Even
Stop Bits - 1
ID Line - 0
ID Text -

Settings are correct. Problem sometimes with usb/serial adaptors.
error 5 – Failed to read control file from cash register (e.g. control code ACK not
received).
Sounds like com port setting or problem with serial link. Port 3 on register must be set the same as com port on pc.
To check this turn key to P and press these buttons

down arrow (until i/o settings is reached)
enter (press until you see com3)
settings for com 3 are kind=3, speed =5, flag1 =110111
