departments vs plu's i dont get it!
hi
could someone explain to me the difference between a department and plu? im trying to program in my food and beverages but i dont have enough buttons for all of it so i guess i would use plu's how would you make it easy on the staff so as not to confusing that they would need to remember 300 plu numbers?
help me pleaseee!!
Hi,
I'm pretty new to all this but think that PLUs are generally for fixed-price items, eg. a jar of coffee. This can be linked to a department (e.g. drinks) so that when you do your x/z reports you can see how many PLUs (eg individual jars of coffee) you've sold, and how many in the generic department (eg drinks, which may include other things like tea, hot chocolate, coke etc).
You could still program a department key on your keyboard that allows you to enter a price manually into that department, but obviously it's quicker (for the cashier!) if you program all your products into PLUs and assign them to individual keys.
Now you say you're running out of keys. On my cash register (TE-4500F) there's a function called "menu shift" that basically gives you "6 keyboards". So you could program all your (eg) drinks into menu shift 1, all your foods into menu shift 2, etc. The same physical key on your keyboard can have up to 6 different PLUs assigned to it depending on what level of menu shift you've selected. I must confess I've never tried this.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Chris.
