casio te2400
Hi
We have a number of tills that are kept in storage and pulled out a couple of times a year. A few are showing the line of 'L's. I have reset using the receipt feed button and a couple are now fine. Others arent and are saying just 01 in the top left hand screen in PGM. In reg it shows a random collection of letters/symbols, in the top left hand corner. I cant get rid of these except when i press the DATE/TIME button. It then shows error message 008, to sign on, but it wont let me. Are these ones dead?
Thanks
The problem is due to pulling them out a couple of times a year. The batteries have gone flat or failed and the memory has been lost. Those that did not recover from the flag clear (holding rcpt feed etc) will need to be fully RAM cleared and re-programmed or restored from a backup. If the batteries haven't been replaced within five years, it would pay to get a dealer to put new batteries in them also. It is a rechargeable battery inside the machine. You should be plugging these registers in every month or two for a day to let them charge their memory batteries. Leave them in REG mode to charge as some models don't charge when key is in off mode.
The TE2400 uses 3 AA batteries, they're inside the printer cover so you can change them yourself, make sure you do it with the till turned on though so it doesn't lose it's memory.
Like register man says though the L's mean 'Low Battery' and are a result of chucking the poor till in a cupboard not plugged in relying on the little batteries to keep it all fired up inside so that it remembers everything

The Ni-Cad battery is fixed to the logic circuit board.
When fully charged it can retain the programmed data and sales totals for up to 60 days, sometime more.
Cash registers DO NOT store very well and when stored need to be plugged in to the mains power and charged regularly, as well as being kept dry. A damp cellar or bottle store is a NO NO
Once the battery has become depleted, it is usual for LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLs to be displayed. The machine would need to be re-initialised to get it going again, at this point all programming data and sale data will have been lost.
Whilst you will be able to re-program PLU data, and message details, all system setting have been lost, so it's probably better to have dealer re-program it for you. Alternatively, you can copy the program from a working machine using a CF card.
Never use a Nicd battery in this model. It needs a vanadium pentoxide lithium battery as it has a lithium type charge circuit which is not compatible with Nicd batteries.
