I've just bought both of the above and was expecting it to be relatively straightforward to find the info I need to get the barcode reader working. How wrong I was...

I've worked with serial devices and barcode scanners before in non-EPoS environments and got on just fine. This is my first ECR and programming both my SE-S300 and barcode scanner seems to be a whole new ballgame though. I can't find any programming guides for barcode reader config on my Casio.

As I didn't purchase this combo already programmed by a dealer, am I doomed? I can't believe the programming guides for Casio ECS are top secret, are they?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks
Martin

After more work this evening trying to get my scanner to work, I thought I'd update this post with what I've found so far:

1) I've programmed my scanner using the usual Casio Voyager Scanner Setup sheet and checked it's actually working by using PuTTY set up to talk on COM1 on my laptop using 2400-E-7-2 and RTS/CTS handshaking. When I scan a product barcode (EAN-13) it successfully reads into PuTTY.

2) I've done what I *believe* I need to do to enable scanning on the SE-S300: PGM 3 0198 <ST> 2000 <CA> <ST>. I presume I use 0198 as I only have one COM port on the ECR but just for good measure, I did the same thing for 0298. I then power off/disconnect the ECR from the mains, connect the scanner and power back on. I've tried Flag Clear as I've read that this may be required after changing scanner settings/config.

Despite all of the above, I get no response on the ECR when scanning a barcode. The scanner beeps and the scanner base flashes to indicate successful transmission from the scanner to the base (it's a bluetooth cordless scanner) but there's no response on the SE-S300.

If anyone can tell me what I'm missing I'd be very grateful. I've Googled everything I can think of to give me a clue as to why my SE-S300 is not responding and I've turned up nothing that I haven't already tried.

Thanks
Martin

Is there any evidence that the Voyager MS9535 and SE-S300 will work together? Has anyone got this combination working?

Having now purchased a Metrologic MS9520 scanner as well and had this working within 30 seconds of opening the box, there are clearly some operational configuration differences between the MS9520 and the MS9535. I've connected both to my RS232 tester and I can see immediately that the handshaking is working very differently. This backs up a conversation I had with a really helpful guy at Casio, that all Voyager Scanners are not the same...I'll now see if I can work out why the Metrologic bluetooth scanner's handshaking isn't playing ball.

On another note, I was surprised to see that you can't edit the barcodes for products en masse using CV10. The default installation doesn't transfer the OBR file to your PC. I've now modded the CV10 config files and got the right files out of the SE-S300 so I can edit them locally and send them back, saving a load of time setting up barcode data on the ECR.

Can you please let us know what changes you made to the config files so that others can have the same functions :D
